4 Simple Ways to Reduce Plastic Waste Every Day

Everybody is looking to make a change to their plastic use. Single-use plastic is a massive problem, and the only way to solve it is by everybody cutting down. Simple and easy changes can make a huge difference. That’s why we’re here to tell you what changes to make to make a difference. Plastic waste is a monumental problem, but with a collective effort from individuals and businesses, we can take the necessary steps towards saving the environment.

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

This change is easy to make and at minimal cost. Just purchase a good-quality reusable bottle. Metal or glass bottles are best as they can both be recycled at the very end of their life. Carrying around one of these reusable water bottles means you don’t have to purchase single-use bottles. Instead, simply fill up the bottle you have with you. By switching to a reusable bottle, you could save an average of 156 plastic bottles annually. That’s a huge amount when you think of how many bottles that could prevent people using in their lifetime.

So, why not have a look for a metal or glass bottle next time you’re out shopping. Alternatively, we also offer glass bottles here at Billi that are ideal for the workplace. Simply fill them from your Billi tap, and reduce your use of single-use plastic in your workplace.

Stop Using Plastic Straws

Plastic straws are a nightmare for sea animals. Thousands of them end up in the ocean every day. The straws then pollute the oceans and can get trapped or caught in animals feathers or bodies. The only way to stop this from happening is to completely cut out plastic straws. There are plenty of plastic straw alternatives – with the main ones being biodegradable paper, metal or bamboo. There are even glass straws! With this many alternatives out there, there’s really no excuse for still using plastic straws.

To go even further and really make a difference, why not try talking to your local pubs and bars about switching to bio-degradable straws?

Reusable Coffee Cups

If you’re a keen coffee drinker like we are, why not make a difference every day by switching to a reusable cup? Coffee cups do have elements of them that are recyclable, but only when they have been split apart. This very rarely happens and means the majority of coffee cups end up in landfill.

Switch to a reusable coffee cup, and you won’t only make an environmental difference. Many coffee shops and outlets across the country are now offering financial incentives for bringing a reusable cup. So your pocket will benefit from going single-use plastic free too.

Carry a Shopping Bag

After the introduction of the 5p charge for shopping bags, there has been a massive 85% drop in plastic carrier bag usage. However, many people are still using plastic bags, they are just simply reusing ones they already had. This is good, however, you can do better. Stop using plastic bags altogether, and instead carry fabric or cotton tote bags. They are more durable and can be recycled too.

These are just 4 ways you can reduce your single-use plastic usage. Why not tell us your favourite ways to reduce plastic in the comments?
