Alternative Ways to Stay Hydrated in the Workplace

How Can You Ensure You Stay Hydrated at Work?

Allowing yourself to become dehydrated can have serious consequences. Headaches, fatigue, memory loss, and reduced concentration are common side effects. So, how can you prevent dehydration in the workplace?

Your body is made up of 60-65% water, and becoming dehydrated can lead to lasting effects on it – those mentioned above, and even kidney failure, or ultimately death. Without water, your body simply doesn’t function. It’s easy to forget about staying hydrated when you’re at work – but if you’re working hard, your body needs hydrating more than ever to ensure maximum productivity.

Hydration through food

Aside from installing a Billi water system in your office, the next obvious solution is to hydrate through food. Making sure you eat food with high water content can ensure you remain hydrated throughout the day. Carbohydrate-heavy, salty or rich foods can all lead to you becoming dehydrated quicker. Instead, reach for foods that are full of water, and keep your brain and body functioning at 100%.

If you aren’t sure what foods are full of water, we can help. To start with, try and incorporate more fruit and vegetables into your diet. Vegetables such as cucumber and celery have a high water content – 96% and 95% respectively.

Fruits such as watermelon (92% water) and grapefruit (91% water) also have a high water content! So make sure you’re filling your body with fruits like these to stay hydrated.

Food provides you with 20% of your recommended daily intake of water, so it’s essential you’re eating the right stuff! By consuming water through food, you’re replenishing fluids that your body may have lost through sweat, urine, and breathing.

Reasons to stay hydrated

If the thought of nausea, headaches, and tiredness don’t encourage you to have a glass of water, think about the other things water helps your body achieve.

Water in your body is responsible for regulating your body temperature, cushioning your joints, transporting nutrients and it also helps to maintain muscular strength and endurance. In the colder months, staying hydrated can also help keep your skin supple – so being dehydrated can actually cause you to age faster.

Drink up

Every day you should drink between 5-8 glasses of water to keep hydrated. But, it doesn’t have to be boring still water. Use your Billi tap to make yourself sparkling cordial, fruit water with slices of lemon or squash. Aim to go for something with no added sugar, as this can damage your teeth in the long run.

As well as sparkling, hot and cold water from your Billi tap, you could also try drinking coconut water, herbal tea, iced coffee, smoothies, juice or milk. Although these drinks all keep you hydrated, be wary of the sugar/dairy content if you’re trying to be healthy.

The best source of hydration is obviously water, and with a Billi tap and instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water at your fingertips, it just makes sense.
