5 Ways to Stay Hydrated Without Water

If you struggle to gulp down 8 glasses of water a day, we might have the answer. Or rather, 5 of them! It’s easy to forget to drink water sometimes, and as a result, it can be hard to stay hydrated. Make a mental note of this list, and next time you’re feeling parched, why not eat or drink one of these instead. Water will always be the most effective at hydrating you, but getting water from fruits and veggies is great too.

Coconut Water

This drink is a health craze for good reason. It is high in electrolytes and potassium and also extremely hydrating. Is there anything coconuts aren’t good for? Electrolytes are essential for replenishing and regulating body fluids. These electrolytes can also help keep you feeling alert and awake! Dehydration can lead to feelings of tiredness and fatigue.

Spinach

Pop a handful in a smoothie or pack it into your lunchtime salad. Spinach is around 92% water – another superfood! It is high in iron and calcium which is great if you’re a vegetarian and aren’t getting these from meat. Owing to the high levels of vitamins and nutrients, it is also supposed to have anti-cancerous properties.

Watermelon

The clue should be in the name with this one… Watermelon is around 92% water also. A refreshing summer snack, it is great on its own or in salads or juices. Like tomatoes, watermelon has a high lycopene content. Lycopene should be your best friend! It is a very powerful antioxidant with cancer-fighting properties. Just one wedge of watermelon has around 4 times the lycopene of that of a medium tomato.

Grapefruit

Not only good for aiding weight loss, grapefruits also have a high water content. This means they make a great snack when you need to stay hydrated. These magic citrus fruits contribute to lowering LDL cholesterol in your body and help to stabilise your body’s sugar levels.

Cucumber

Boasting the highest water content of any food, cucumber should definitely be on this list. Have some cucumber sticks with houmous, or chuck it into salads or smoothies. Their mild flavour makes them perfect in sweet and savoury. They also contain no saturated fat at all. An ideal snack if you’re watching your weight and need to stay hydrated too.

For all the fruit and veg on this list, it is best to consume them raw. Often when you boil or cook vegetables, they lose the majority of their fluid content! The fluid is the main reason you’re consuming them in the first place. Also note that as well as eating or drinking the items on this list, you will only stay hydrated by also drinking water. Your body is made up of 80% water, and becoming dehydrated can have serious negative effects on your body. To ensure your workplace stays hydrated and alert, why not install Billi systems. Chilled, boiling and sparkling water on demand encourage employees to get a drink as there is no waiting around for the kettle to boil or water to chill.
